Yesterday I had the worst flare I've ever had and could barely move. None of my usual meds would help so I had to see the out of hours doctor as I desperatey needed something to keep me going til i see the rheumy on Thursday. He gave me meloxicam and tramadol, which seem to be working, but I have been feeling very sick. I was wondering if anyone else has taken these and how oyu got on with them?

Hi Maria,I've taken Tramadol but they didn't help much with the pain. I don't know what dosage you are taking.I started by taking two and it made me feel quite ill.Tried taking one, but the following day I had nausea. Can't help regarding the Meloxicam, havn't heard of that one before. Breane.x

Hi Maria, Sorry to hear you are unwell. I haven't taken either drug but Meloxicam is a non-steroid anti-inflammatory drug, it's possible it could irritate your stomach. Hope you feel better soon.
Love, Doreen xx

If you're taking it orally it could definitely upset your stomach. A friend is someone who knows all about you but loves you anyway!

Thanks everyone for your replies. I'm on 50 or 100 mg 4 times a day of the tramdol but I've only been taking 100mg twice a day so far. the pain and stiffness has settled more today- i just feel exhausted- and as you put it Sophie, spaced. I've been falling asleep in front of the tv most of the day. To be honest, I'm just so glad to get some relief from the pain. I haven't been as bad as this since just before I was diagnosed.
Jenni - I haven't got a temperature as such- but have been getting a bit 'hot flushy'.

Hi Maria We are both in the same boat at the mo - maybe we should compare flare stories I am finding that I can no longer take morphine based drugs. I took oromorph yesterday morning and it made me violently sick. Last night I tried Tramadol again and that too made me sick. This resistance to morphine has been coming on for a few months now but it could definitely be the tramadol causing your problems. Really hope you feel better soon! MUCH love Jeanxxxx

Poor Maria! I am so sorry and sad to hear of this nasty flare!
I have Tramadol by my bed and used it for my hip pain but i found it made me quite nauseous and panicky as do other opiates..
Much love,
Amanda

I'm sorry you're feeling so unwell. I take Tramadol, get no side effects, but as others have mentioned it doesn't relly help with the pain.
Jean - I was on patches when my back and RA were bad together. I wasn't too bad when I started apart from being in a cold sweat, but after a few weeks I started to feel very sick and faint, so had to come off them. It doesn't mean that you will have those side effects, though.

odd really- the tramodol helps with the pain but makes me feel sick. Seems as if it's one or the other! I've found that sipping peppermint tea helps to settle my tum. Thankfully I haven't actually been sick.
anyway- off to rheummy tomorrow so will see what's going on.
Thanks for your advice everyone.

Hi Maria, So sorry to hear your in so much pain with a bad flare. I too take Tramadol and find that it makes me feel queasy and spaced out. I was recently given a morphine path, because of sever pain in my back (4 prolapsed discs), but have not plucked-up the courage to put one on yet. Please to hear you're feeling a bit better and hope your rheumy can help to sort out the flare. love, Barbara XXXXXX

It's my own stupid fault, Julie, for taking myself off the meds. They do say there's no fool like an old fool! A bit better today - thanks for asking Love Jeanxxx
